The Serape

by Wayne Lopes
Every week, Carlitos and his family make the journey from their farm to the local village to sell their crops. One day, Carlitos decides to do something other than sell crops: he begins designing Mexican blankets, also known as serapes. Parting with the traditions of his family’s lineage, Carlitos must figure out how to follow his heart while also upholding the values of his community. As word of the serapes makes its way around the village, will his family allow Carlitos to continue to make his unique blankets? Or, will Carlitos have to give up his passion in order to commit to his duties?
